The Jesus Storybook Bible – Book Review
Review Author: Ray Chang, Pastoral Intern at the Barrington Campus
Book Author: Sally Lloyd-Jones
One of the most helpful ways to gain an understanding of the centrality of Christ in the Bible is to read it from cover to cover. For most people, this is a daunting thought. The Jesus Storybook Bible is a great entry point for non-believers, new-believers, and mature believers into understanding how Christ is the central figure in both the Old and New Testaments.
Sally Lloyd-Jones (no affiliation to Martin Lloyd-Jones) clarifies the main message of the Bible through language that is accessible and colorful. The entire Bible is about Jesus and she helps readers see how and why. She paints the various accounts of the Bible in a way that makes you go, “hmmm” and “ahhhh,” inserting profound truths that come from drinking from the deep well of scripture.
As the author sheds light on the scarlet thread that runs through the Bible, she also reveals that the thread is Jesus Christ. The Jesus Storybook Bible also highlights some of the more culturally difficult passages in the Bible to understand. Lloyd-Jones both transports readers into the cultural context and helps readers see how relevant the Bible is for all people today.
This award winning book is highly recommended to anyone whether or not there are children in the picture. Children and adults are all invited to read through various selections in the Bible and see how the God who created the world is inviting them to participate in a journey that will transform their lives forever.
