Four and a half years ago, we visited The Orchard Marengo and immediately were drawn by the people, worship, music, Sunday LIFE Group, and most of all, the preaching of the word of God. For these reasons we made it our home church. Later, that same year we learned about The Orchard’s Thrive Campaign and were thrilled to join in this effort, especially in reaching the unreached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the Chicago area and in the Balkan Region. Denise and Steve Koehnke shared with us their experience with short-term missions trips to Hungary and Albania and encouraged us to consider going on a mission trip. We spoke to Brad Mullet and he immediately arranged our first visit to Durrës, Albania in March 2018. We prayed for guidance from the Lord and made a second trip in April 2019. We prayed again, took a step of faith, and answered God’s calling to serve in Durrës, Albania. I had retired as principal of a Christian school in Chicago and my wife Dally resigned from teaching in the Chicago Public Schools.
We have been serving in Durrës since August 2019. Dally and I are teaching English at the American Language School, a project of the Durrës Evangelical Church, that was launched to reach the community of Durrës. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)
