Kreg and I met at The Orchard (which was called the Arlington Heights Evangelical Free Church at that time). We later married and raised our four children at that church. As our children grew, it became increasingly difficult to get to Arlington Heights due to the distance from our house in Libertyville, especially for Awana and youth group activities. We started praying for a campus to open up closer to us about 15 years ago. We loved the sound preaching of the Gospel, the welcoming fellowship of the congregation, and the organization of all the activities the church had to offer. We had to make the very difficult decision to leave The Orchard and relocate to a church closer to home in order to meet the needs of our children as they were all actively involved in sports and we were unable to keep them plugged into the youth group being so far from our home. Although we liked our new church, we never lost that feeling of where our hearts truly belonged, which was with The Orchard. We tried many different churches in our area, but nothing came close to the high standards that The Orchard has to offer.
When Tom Yoon called and asked if we would be interested in helping to launch the Vernon Hills congregation, we didn’t even have to think about it. We both immediately said YES! We are so excited and grateful for this amazing opportunity. We’ve seen God work out all the details even in the midst of Covid. With all the unrest our country has been experiencing, we can’t think of a better time to start this congregation to continue to bring truth and light to those around us. We hope to be a beacon in the darkness.
